The Ereignis Center for Philosophy and the Arts is a non-profit, community-driven organisation dedicated to advancing research, education, and outreach in philosophy and the arts. Our administration is based in Moss, Norway and Gdynia, Poland. The Center has an international membership and global reach. We teach, host events, and produce publications in formats such as print and electronic books, podcasts, art galleries, and videos. Party politically neutral, the Center provides a platform for open inquiry.

Membership

The Ereignis Center is run by volunteers. Our teaching, events, and publications are produced through the work of our members, and membership fees pay for hosting our website, the seminar interface, and our video library.

Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the Ereignis philosophy. Members elect the Center’s Board at the annual General Assembly, which also decides the annual membership fee.

Our approach

The Ereignis Center for Philosophy and the Arts is rooted in the belief that true understanding involves making ideas one’s own. Ereignis, a German term meaning “event” or “appropriation,” reflects our commitment to engaging deeply and personally with philosophical and artistic inquiries.

In this spirit the Center organises:

• Teaching: Through the Ereignis Institute we offer online and on-site courses in philosophy, psychoanalysis, culture, and the arts. Our multidisciplinary approach to teaching is founded on a basic trust in students, encouraging students to make ideas their own through active dialogue, reflection, and experience. With us, you will find professors and instructors who listen carefully to their students and try to understand each student’s particular circumstance and background.
• Events: We collaborate with scholars, institutions, artists, and other collectives to create spaces for exchanging views, insights, and creative practices. Highlights include our annual Ereignis Conference, which features cutting-edge academics such as James Bahoh, Lucy Huskinson, and Vivek Narayanan. Our events, including the monthly Seminar, are generally recorded; recordings can be viewed on our video page.
• Research: Our multidisciplinary research spans philosophy, psychoanalysis, and cultural theory, preparing the ground for enhanced perception and improved quality of life. Our research has been featured at international conferences, with publications by our affiliated scholars in acclaimed journals and monographs. The Center is registered with the Research Organisation Registry (ROR) and members are welcome to use it as their institutional affiliation, subject to our Affiliation and research integrity policy.
• Publications and Media: The Center produces a range of media, including podcasts, videos, and online art galleries, all available on our website to engage and inspire our community. For print and digital publications, our publishing arm, Tankebanen forlag, and its English-language imprint, utopos publishing, deliver high-quality scholarship, fiction, and art. Through Tankebanen, we also publish the international, peer-reviewed journal Inscriptions, which serves as a platform for critical and creative voices in philosophy and the arts.
