Biography
Balım İslamoğlu is a PhD candidate in Cinema and Media Studies at Bahçeşehir University and a specialist in the Visual Communication Design Department. Her research focuses on diegetic phenomenology, contemporary cinema, and digital media, with particular emphasis on phenomenological experience and intersubjective relations between characters in film narratives. She is especially interested in how cinematic space, memory, perception, and embodiment shape the experiential worlds of characters within diegetic structures. Her work also examines posthumanism, artificial intelligence, and human-machine relations in contemporary science fiction cinema, particularly in relation to digital culture and shifting forms of subjectivity. Drawing on film theory, phenomenology, and critical media studies, her research explores the transformation of perception and communication in contemporary visual culture. She has presented work on posthuman identity, digital memory, and phenomenological approaches to cinema at academic conferences and continues to study the intersections of cinema, technology, and experience.
