Biography

Gustavo Chataignier is a professor in the Department of Philosophy at the Universidad Católica del Maule (Talca, Chile). He holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from Paris 8 University and completed postdoctoral research at UFRJ (Rio de Janeiro). His dissertation, “Temps historique et immanence: les concepts de nécessité et de possibilité dans une histoire ouverte,” was supervised by Daniel Bensaïd and Patrice Vermeren and was published in 2012 (Paris: L’Harmattan). In 2024, he held a fellowship as an associate research director at Paris 8 University, funded by a grant from the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme, to conduct research on Alain Badiou’s theory of the subject, which included a period of research in the Alain Badiou collection at IMEC. In 2020, he was awarded the Chair of the Americas by the Institut des Amériques for a research period at the University of Rennes 2. He was a visiting professor at the University of Valparaíso, where he participated in the activities surrounding the awarding of an honorary doctorate to Jacques Rancière (2016). Former professor in the Department of Communication at PUC-RJ. He is a member of the Laboratoire des Logiques Contemporaines de la Philosophie (Paris 8), where he has completed several internships. Member of the Centre d’études de langues et littératures modernes (Cellam) at Rennes 2. Deputy head of the Center for Contemporary French Philosophy (NuFFC) at UFRJ and translator of Rancière’s “Malaise dans l’esthétique” (with Hussak) for Editora 34.
