Sandra Meeuwsen (Curaçao, 1966) is a Visiting Scholar in Sport Philosophy and Sport Ethics at Paris Institute of Health and Sport Sciences, Paris City University FR. She received her PhD in Philosophy and Moral Sciences at Free University Brussels (VUB) in 2020. Thirty years earlier, Sandra finished her Master in Philosophy at Radboud University Nijmegen NL (1990). After that, she developed into a semi professional triathlete and policymaker, employed at NL Olympic Committee (1994-2007). In 2008 she decided to start her own business as an independent consultant and researcher. From 2016 Sandra started her doctoral research, drewing on these decades of ‘embedded ethics’, offering a philosophical archaeology of modern sports, in line with Giorgio Agamben‘s critical thought. In 2022, Sandra was invited to build Erasmus Center for Sport Integrity & Transition (ESPRIT), hosted by Erasmus School of Philosophy, Erasmus University Rotterdam NL (2022-2025). In these years she added a post-lacanian approach to her philosophical analyses, moving towards a political philosophy of sport. Her latest research explores how to evolve an affective turn in the realm of sport ethics. Sandra strongly beliefs that the learnings in sport offer a valuable mirror for more societal domains, such as education, healthcare and business.
